I remember in high school when we were doing a unit on Ted Hughes, we were discussing the fact that Plath fans often chip off the ‘Hughes’ at the end of her name on her gravestone - I was the only person who disagreed with this behaviour. No matter your opinion on the relationship between the two poets, denying Hughes’ place in her life is just insulting to the both of them.
